Butcher’s block - Jan. 8, 2014

Brrrrrr, it is cold outside! But one thing the cold did not deter was the New Years shoppers. I made the tragic error of stopping at the mall, to quickly run into one department store. It was a scene out of the Walking Dead.

These women had transformed into zombies, no makeup, hair pulled tight into ponytails, grabbing and snatching for shoes, handbags, and clothes. I never wanted to leave somewhere so quickly in my life! I was ready to run home to comfort. Comfort for me is food!

So in this cold wintery weather, enjoy one of my favorite comfort recipes!

2 lbs ground beef

2 medium yellow onions, diced

3 cloves garlic, chopped

3 cups water

2 cans tomato sauce (15 oz)

2 cans diced tomatoes (15 oz)

1 tbsp salt

1 tbsp pepper

1 tbsp garlic powder

2 tbsp Italian seasoning

3 tbsp soy sauce

2 cups elbow macaroni

In large pot, brown ground beef, draining off any excess grease. Add onion and garlic and sauté until translucent. Add water, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, all seasoning, and soy sauce. Allow to simmer for 15-20 minutes. Add elbow macaroni and allow to simmer an additional 20 minutes or until tender.
