Crawford County Friends of Genealogy will hold a special meeting at the Van Buren Public Library Sunday, March 16 at 2:30 p.m. The meeting will be in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Armenian genocide in the country of Armenia, located in western Asia, which scattered Armenians to all parts of the globe, including Arkansas. Special guests will be descendants of two of the families who escaped the country during that era.
Emphasis will be on learning about the Armenian culture, how to recognize family names rooted in that region (often ending in -ian or -yan), how to do research for that part of the world and raising awareness of what happened in Armenia 100 years ago.
