Celebrating 100th birthday

<p>Harlan Shankle (second from left), a resident of Legacy Heights Retirement Center in Van Buren, celebrated his 100th birthday March 11. He is with (from left) Crawford County Judge John Hall, Legacy Heights Administrator Tim Hodges and Van Buren Mayor Bob Freeman. Shankle was born March 11, 1914, in Hartford. He worked in the coal mines at Jenny Lind, worked for Colonial Bread in Fort Smith, got married, served in the Navy for three years and retired from the post office in 1978. He is also a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Dallas Cowboys. Shankle received birthday greetings and proclamations from Freeman, Hall, Sen. John Boozman, Sen. Mark Pryor, Gov. Mike Beebe, President Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton.</p>
