The first day of the 2014-15 school year at Van Buren High School Fresman Academy started with teachers handing out schedules and getting students situated. This was followed by an assembly with Josh Foliart as a guest speaker. Foliart talked about how the students have endless opportunities with all the “open doors.” Next students went to each class for about 10-15 minutes to hear some basics. At the academy, each student is placed on a color team. Those teams had team meetings in the middle of the day to create a chant and learn about the FAT-C (Freshman Academy Team Cup) trophy. Then students met with their STAR adviser to play games and get to know their STAR group. The day ended with a band with an loud, enthusiastic rep rally.
