Classes at the Crawford County Adult Education Center begin Monday.
CCAEC will be offering several classes beginning Aug. 19 to prepare students for the current GED test, as well as the new high school equivalency test beginning Jan. 1, said Laura DeCanter, career coach with the CCAEC.
Classes being offered include math, language, writing, science, social studies and computer literacy. Some of the computer literacy classes will be geared toward becoming comfortable with the testing process for the 2014 computerized test, DeCanter said.
CCAEC also will conduct English as a second language (ESL) and citizenship classes, and will continue to provide assistance to students in their studies for the COMPASS and ASVAB tests, she said.
In addition to adult education classes, students will be able to participate in two different work-based certificate programs, Workforce Alliance for Growth in the Economy (W.A.G.E.) and Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) training.
CCAEC also provides additional resources for students including the Parents as Teachers (PAT) program and High School Equivalency Program (HEP).
Several options for college courses and assistance with financial aid applications also will be offered at the CCAEC, as staff are working in collaboration with Vincennes University to offer courses in Van Buren.
Fall hours will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. All of the services offered at the Crawford County Adult Education Center are free.
Fall will be the last semester for the paper and pencil version of the official GED test, DeCanter said. The new high school equivalency test will begin Jan. 1 and will be given online, she said.
Students that have begun the process of testing before January will be required to finish prior to Jan. 1 in order to receive credit for the tests that they have completed, DeCanter said.
