The Van Buren fire and police departments will hold their annual Guns ‘N Hoses blood drive from noon until 6:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, at the Van Buren Public Library, 1409 Main St.
Donors will receive a 2014 Guns ‘N Hoses T-shirt and two free tickets to the Tulsa Zoo.
To fuel a little healthy competition, donors will choose which department to support by donating on behalf of law enforcement or the fire department.
Dan Miller with the Arkansas Blood Institute said the intent of this event is to collect enough blood to supply local hospitals during the summer season, a season that normally experiences a decline in blood donations.
“The enthusiasm and excitement that the police and fire departments bring to this drive is remarkable,” he said. “They have a deep passion to support and serve the local community.”
Anyone who is healthy and 16 years of age can donate, and donations can be made every 56 days.
Arkansas Blood Institute provides every drop of blood needed by patients in the 14 counties in western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma.
Contact Miller at 652-3001 for more information or to make an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome. A photo ID will be required.
