Linton appointed to state committee

A Van Buren resident was one of 16 appointed to state boards and commissions as announced by Gov. Mike Beebe on Wednesday.

Kevin Linton was appointed to the Arkansas Apprenticeship Coordination Steering Committee, replacing Darrell Anderson.

According to Arkansas Code § 6-52-204, AACSC duties involve recommending a statewide plan for the development of a comprehensive program of apprenticeship training to the State Board of Career Education.

Included in that plan are formulas and administrative procedures to be used in requesting appropriations of state funds for apprenticeship training and distributing those funds to apprenticeship training programs.

The committee is expected to have five people representing employers of members of apprenticeable trades; five people representing bargaining agents for members of apprenticeable trades; five people representing the minority and female workforce who have knowledge of apprenticeship and are familiar with the needs of vocational and technical education; and five people who teach or immediately supervise preparatory instruction, supplementary instruction or related instruction courses.

Members of the coordination committee serve four-year terms, and vacancies are filled for the unexpired portion of a vacated term.

Linton’s appointment expires Dec. 1, 2016.
