A Valentine’s themed pageant will be held Feb. 9 at the Boys and Girls Club of the Alma Area.
The Sweetheart of the River Pageant will begin at 2 p.m. Several boy divisions are open up to 10 years old, and female divisions are open for all ages.
Items donated from the community will be raffled off during the event, and there also will be vendors selling merchandise such as jewelry and hair bows, said Marla Keady, pageant organizer.
Admission to attend the event is $5 for adults and $2 for children, Keady said.
Sweetheart of the River is a fundraiser for the Miss Arkansas River Scholarship Pageant, which is a preliminary for the Miss America Pageant.
“This will help us raise money for scholarships for the next pageant,” Keady said.
Deadline for submitting an entry form for Sweetheart of the River is Feb. 1 and the fee is $30.
Divisions for girls include Tiny Tot for ages 0-18 months, Wee Princess for ages 19-35 months, Tiny Princess for ages 3-4 years, Princess for ages 5-6, Little Miss for ages 7-8, Junior Miss for ages 9-10, Pre-Teen for ages 11-12 and Teen for ages 13-15.
Boy divisions are Wee Mr. for ages 0-2, Tiny Mr. for ages 3-4, Little Mr. for ages 5-7 and Mr. for ages 8-10.
Adult divisions are Queen for ages 16-18, Miss for ages 19-25, Mrs. for ages 26-54 and Senior for ages 55 and older.
Tiny Tot, Wee Princess and all boys divisions will have one category to be judged, requiring contestants to wear a “red outfit of choice.”
There will be two categories for all other divisions; contestants must wear one outfit that contains the color red, and a pageant dress.
Keady wants contestants to “be creative” when choosing their Valentine’s Day themed outfit, she said.
