The Van Buren Police Department has named its officer and employee of the year.

Cpl. Rick Patterson, a 27-year veteran of the department, was named officer of the tear.

Patterson has served as animal control officer, patrolman, detective and school resource supervisor, according to a news release from detective Jonathan Wear of the Van Buren Police Department.

Patterson was promoted to corporal in 2005. He also has served with a U.S. Marshals Service federal task force. Patterson is a certified advanced crime-scene technician and holds a certificate of proficiency in crime-scene investigation from the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith. He has more than 1,000 hours of police training, the release states.

Dispatcher Mandy Roy was named the department’s employee of the year.

Roy has been with the department since May 2011, holds a Level II ACIC certification and is an APCO public-safety telecommunicator, according to the release.

Patterson and Roy both were nominated by fellow Van Buren Police Department employees.
