Etsel Mackey

Etsel Berniece Brooks Mackey, 98, a resident of Hope’s Creek Assisted Living Center in Van Buren, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, Dec. 2, 2013, at Summit Medical Center in Van Buren. The daughter of John and Maude Brooks, she was born Feb. 15, 1915, in Dover. She married the late Robert L. Mackey on July 6, 1936, and was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Assembly of God in Van Buren and the North New Hope Quilting Association.

Mrs. Mackey loved being at Hope’s Creek Assisted Living Center and cherished the care and love that was given to her there. She enjoyed playing checkers and dominos, quilting, canning and especially spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Robert L. Mackey; her son, Michael Don Mackey; grandchild, Chuck Mackey; son-in-law, Roy Sallee; her parents; and seven siblings.

Survivors include her son, Charles Robert Mackey and wife Patricia of Tulsa; two daughters, Melba Joyce Patterson and husband Pat of Van Buren and Linda Kay Sallee of Van Buren; daughter-in-law, Judy Mackey of Russellville; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Ollie Brooks of Russellville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today at Humphrey Chapel in Russellville. The Revs. Bobby Johnson and Lynell Brooks will officiate. Burial will be at North New Hope Cemetery in Dover by Humphrey Funeral Service.
