Jewell “Cross” Cox, 97, of Fort Smith passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at a local hospital. She was born in Huntington, Ark., to Andrew Jackson and Elizabeth (Spessard) Cross. She was retired from Wortz Biscuit Co., a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church since 1953 and a longtime member of RSVP and the Jolly Travelers.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith with burial in Gilliam Cemetery near Greenwood.
She is survived by her two sons, David Cox and his wife Dolores of Van Buren and John “J.R.” Cox of Fort Smith; a sister-in-law, Nemoine Cross of Houston, Texas; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be the Van Buren boys tennis team, Ty Dunn, Brett Dunn, Braydon Montgomery, Houston Anderson, Nick Anderson and Dylan Killough.
The family will visit with friends from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home.
