Paul L. Hurst, 95, of Van Buren died Sunday, June 29, 2014, at a local nursing home. He was owner and manager of Peoples Warehouse Grocery and an Army veteran of World War II who received the AP Theater Ribbon, two bronze stars and Philippine Liberation ribbon. He was a former Rotarian and chairman of Civil Service Commission in Van Buren. He was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church in Van Buren, former chairman of the deacons, trustee of the church and taught Sunday school for 42 years. He was the widow of Lee Mae Hurst.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda Lee Frey of Fort Smith; a son, Dr. Mike Hurst of Van Buren; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Mark Hurst, Nathan Hurst, Joseph Paul Hurst, Ben Robinson, Kevin Williamson and Ben Goodman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Mike Hurst’s Sunday School and deacons of the First Baptist Church in Van Buren.
The body may be viewed from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
