Ronnie Coble, 66, of Van Buren went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 11, 2014. Ronnie was born in 1948 to Charles Wayne Coble and Ruby Coble in Fort Smith. He was preceded in death by his father and a grandson, Kyler Jacob Coble. Ronnie placed his trust in the Lord Jesus Christ at age 12. His faith gave him a big heart for loving people and helping them through difficult times. Ronnie was a graduate of Van Buren High School and Ouachita Baptist University. At Van Buren he was an all–state defensive lineman playing for Coach Clair Bates and at Ouachita he was a two-time all conference defensive tackle playing for Coach Buddy Benson. In his senior year at Ouachita, he was nominated as one of the outstanding college football players in America.
After graduating from Ouachita, Ronnie coached football at Waldron High School. In 1974, he began a career as an insurance agent for State Farm and has served clients in Van Buren, Fort Smith and surrounding communities for 40 years. After an F-3 tornado hit the Van Buren area in 1996, Ronnie worked several 20-hour days helping his insurance clients get back on their feet. This was one of the most difficult tests of his life as he assisted so many people whose property was shattered by the storm. Ronnie loved the game of golf. He treasured the moments spent on the golf course with his family and friends, especially the team golf events with his son. He won the club championship tournament at Cedars Country Club numerous times. In 1990, he recorded the Cedars Country Club nine hole record of nine under par playing in a six-some which included his son.
Ronnie is survived by a daughter, Karen Coble; a son, Brad Coble; two grandsons, Kaleb and Brayden Coble; his mother, Ruby Coble; a sister Donna Edwards and husband Perry, all of Van Buren; and a brother, Charles E. Coble of Alma
