Thelma “Sazy” Balazic, 92, of Van Buren passed away Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013, in Van Buren. She was born Oct. 19, 1921, in Fern Community, Ark., to the late Wallace and Iva Turner. She was a homemaker and a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fort Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Martin “Mick” Balazic; five sisters, Gayle Watson, Glenda “Jim” Peters, Hazel Balazic, Mary Lou Satterfield and Nola “Pete” Whitlock; a brother, Wayne Turner; and a son, Eldon Shuffield.

She is survived by two sons, Mike Balazic of Van Buren and Dale Balazic of Alma; a sister, Emma Rogers of Mountainburg; a brother, Zane Turner of Mountainburg; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home with burial to follow at Conley Cemetery at Mountainburg under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.

Pallbearers will be Darrell Balazic, Treesa Earley, Taylor Nolen, Robert Nolen, Chris Nolen, Ethan Alexander, Mark Toothaker and Brother Alexander.
