Vernita Smither

Vernita Elizabeth Smither, 89, of Mulberry died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at a local nursing home. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Regular Baptist Church, teacher in the 1940s in a one-room schoolhouse in the Piney community and retired from Plastics Research. She was born Oct. 14, 1924, in the Piney community and was the widow of Edward “Buck” Smither.

She is survived by three daughters, Freddie Kimes, Connie Steinsiek and Sammie Williams, all of Mulberry; two sisters, Thelma Johnson of Mountainburg and Betty Shipp of Mulberry; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Funeral was March 1 at Ocker Chapel in Alma with burial at Piney Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Eddie and Trey Smither, Mike Long, Matthew Kimes, Arron Lincoln and Levi Williams.
