Vernon Leon Holsted, 74, of Rudy died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, in a Fayetteville hospital. He was a retired Army first class staff sergeant and retired self-employed truck driver for 88 Express Trucking Co.
He is survived by his wife, Zella; four daughters, Pam Tollett, Tammiejo Young, Dallas Kiely and Emily Holsted, all of Rudy; four sons, Danny Holsted of Rudy, Matt Holsted of Mountainburg and Dale Holsted and Bob France, both of Fort Smith; nine sisters, Agnes Kiefer, Willie Hogan, Bonnie Havens, Emmylou Gibson, Linda Madden and Glenda Hobbs, all of Paris, Martha Viezey of Pine Bluff, Gladys Brocket of Altus and Phyllis Chambers of Havana; a brother, William Holsted of Oklahoma City; 23 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Mount McCurry Cemetery in Rudy with military honors.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Roberts, Dustin Duprey, Aaron Brantley, Michael Berry and Chad and Toby Holsted.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
