Letter: Thanks to volunteers

The 11th annual River City Rumble high school softball tournament was held on April 4-5 at the Field of Dreams in Van Buren. It takes many hours of hard work to prepare for and run off a tournament like this one. Sixteen high schools come to this tournament from northwest Arkansas to central Arkansas and the River Valley.

There were well over 1,500 visitors to Van Buren over the weekend. These visitors were filling up our stores, restaurants, gas stations and hotels. I have many people to thank for their hard work and generosity. Many businesses donated money, food and or drink for our hospitality room.

These businesses are Subway, Burger King, Zaxby’s, Sister’s Bistro, Pizza Parlour, CV’s, Western Sizzlin’, Frank’s Italian, Sweet Bay, Beef O’Brady’s, Wal-Mart, Firehouse Subs, Price Cutter, Walgreen’s, Hooter’s, Geno’s Pizza, Chili’s, Sam’s Club, Paul’s Bakery, Buffalo Wild Wings, Daily Bread, Sweet Boutique, Chick-Fil-A, Calico County, Butcher Boys, Craig’s Bakery and Wendy’s.

I also need to thank the employees of the Field of Dreams. We are very fortunate to have a quality facility here in Van Buren and especially fortunate to have people such as Paul Dunn and his staff taking care of the facility and keeping it as nice as it is.

The last group I need to thank are the parent volunteers. They sold tickets, ran the hospitality room, sold t-shirts, sold game programs and prepped each field. Although we had rain Thursday night, these volunteers worked eight hours Friday morning to prepare the fields for play by Friday afternoon.

Thanks again to everyone involved. It cannot work without all of us as a community pulling together. We look forward to April 3-4, 2015, for the 12th annual River City Rumble.
