<p>Caedmon and Jordan Johnson lead the pledges at the August meeting of the Chambers 4-H Club. Ethan Williams called the meeting to order. Members discussed 4-H projects, craft workshop, plans for fairground cleaning and basic fair business. Members who attended state and Cloverbud camps did demonstrations on singing balloons. The Sept. 2 meeting will be at the poultry barn at the fairgrounds.</p>

The Franklin County Health Unit, Wal-Mart of Ozark and Arkansas Tech University-Ozark Campus teamed up to offer a coloring contest for pre-kindergarten through sixth-grade aged children obtaining vaccines at the Franklin County Health Unit July 7-31. Laura Rudolph, director of community outreach at Arkansas Tech-Ozark and Roxie Hall of Wal-Mart of Ozark, judged the contest and selected the winners Aug. 1. On Aug. 11, Rudolph, Hall, and Wal-Mart of Ozark Store Manager Chad Graham presented winning participants Layne Coslet, 8, and Emily Green, 10, both of Mulberry, and Torrance Fortenberry, 5, and Trinity Fortenberry, 6, both of Cecil, with backpacks filled with school supplies, in addition to essential items preparing them for their first day of school. Byron and Lillie Scoggin of Van Buren will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Aug. 16 with a vow renewal and dinner for family and friends at Kibler Assembly of God Church from noon to 2 p.m. They were married Aug. 17, 1964, at the courthouse in Montrose, Colo. Mrs. Scoggin is the former Lillie Adair of Booneville and is a retired licensed practical nurse. Mr. Scoggin is a native of Nucla, Colo., and is retired from Whirlpool.

KArB, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary, honored 25 exceptional individuals as exemplary Lodestars for their accomplishments. A lodestar is someone who serves as an inspiration, model or guide. Keep Arkansas Beautiful recognized these individuals for guiding their neighborhoods and communities in an effort to keep Arkansas clean, green and free of litter. Pope was at the July city council meeting to thank Mayor Bob Freeman and the council in their support of KVBB.</p>
