Baseball: Pointers outscores Panthers 46-5 in doubleheader

The Pointers are in the Class 7A baseball playoffs.

Rogers swept Heritage Thursday night and with Van Buren’s near epic sweep of Siloam Springs, the Pointers will begin play in the Class 7A tournament on Thursday, May 9, at 2:30 p.m. in Rogers.

It took nearly 40 minutes just to play the first inning as the Pointers pounded out just seven hits, but loaded up on 12 walks to take an early 22-0 lead and won 37-2.

Van Buren finished with 26 hits as it powered through four Panther pitchers.

Bradley Eversole was 6 for 6 (all singles) with seven RBIs. Colton Tucker had four hits and both Caleb Bauman (five RBIs) and freshman Mickey Malone added three hits each. Five more batters had two hits each.

Senior Hunter Ryan had a three-run double in the first inning. The Pointers batted around three times during the frame. Bauman, who was the lead-off batter, was tagged for the third at his fourth at bat of the first frame.

Van Buren added eight runs in the third with two in the fourth and five in the fifth.

Bauman picked up the win through five innings and gave up just two runs and four hits, two walks and two strikeouts.

Aaron Jones had a three-run double in the first inning and Malone added another two-run double later in the inning.

Eversole hit a pair of two-run singles during the nightcap.

First Game

Van Buren had eight hits to beat Siloam Springs 9-3 in the first game.

Sophomore Spencer Rapin was 3 for 4 with a triple and three runs scored to pace the Pointers. Levi Froud, who had a double, and Jake Freeman had two hits each.

Eversole earned the win for seven innings of work and gave up four hits and three walks and nine strikeouts.

Rapin led off the game with his RBI triple and reached home on an error. Rapin went on to score twice more on errors during the game. Van Buren added another run in the third and three more in the fourth. Hunter Hogan had a sacrifice fly bring home Colton Tucker in the fourth. Hogan rapped in Freeman with a RBI single in the sixth.

The Pointers led 3-0 when Siloam Springs got on board with Dave Goodman scoring off a walk by Levi Tompskins.

Zach Bolstad added a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh for the Panthers.
