College Football: Players report to UA-Monticello

MONTICELLO – Preparation for the 2014 University of Arkansas at Monticello football season is underway as a total of 116 student-athletes reported to campus on Monday for the beginning of preseason training camp.

“We’re pumped to have these young men on campus,” said fourth-year head coach Hud Jackson. “This is an exciting time for our program. We feel we are right where we need to be heading into the season, and can’t wait to see what unfolds over these next three weeks of camp.”

On-field practices begin on Wednesday for the Boll Weevils, a team picked to finish ninth in the Great American Conference as voted on by the league’s head coaches. UAM finished the 2013 season at 5-6 overall and 4-6 in GAC games for an eighth place finish in the league.

The Weevils return a total of 55 lettermen from that squad, including a total of 16 starters. UAM returns seven starters on offense, seven starters on defense and both of its starting specialists.

The preseason practice schedule is below. All practices are open to the public,except for those held in the indoor practice facility. The practices will either be conducted at the outdoor practice facility behind Bankston Hall or the game field at Willis “Convoy” Cotton Boll Stadium.
