Hendrix drops season opener
GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Hendrix College men’s lacrosse team opened the 2014 campaign with a 10-3 loss to Southwestern University on the road Saturday afternoon.
The host Pirates (1-0) outshot the Warriors (0-1) 39-22 overall and 25-8 on goal. SU also held a 32-24 ground ball advantage, despite Hendrix willing 11-of-16 faceoffs.
Freshman midfielder Alex Ortenstone recorded three ground balls and caused two turnovers for Hendrix. Sophomore Kevin Estell also caused two turnovers. Freshman Jason Blatt won 10-of-13 faceoffs and picked up three ground balls. Sophomore keeper Dennis O’Hara recorded 15 saves in goal and had three ground balls.
Hendrix will host Rockhurst University on Feb. 15 at 4 p.m.
The inclement weather that has hit the state of Arkansas has led to further adjustments in the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns’ softball schedule, as Arkansas Tech will now play at 9 a.m. against Missouri Western and 3 p.m. against Cameron University.
The 9 a.m. game will be played on the Ouachita Baptist campus, while the 3 p.m. game will be played at Henderson State.
Saturday’s University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball and softball games were canceled due to inclement weather.
Sunday’s schedule at the “Hurry Up” Softball Classic in Arkadelphia has been restructured following the cancellation of Saturday’s games. The University of Arkansas at Monticello will play one game on Sunday, facing off against Lincoln University at 11 a.m. at Ouachita Baptist’s Sully Anderson Field. UAM’s games against Missouri Western and Cameron have been canceled.
After having games canceled on Saturday due to snow, the Henderson State baseball and softball teams will return to action on Sunday.
The Henderson State baseball team will play its home opener as the Reddies take on Arkansas-Fort Smith with a double-header set for Noon at Clyde Berry Field.
Meanwhile, the Henderson State softball team will resume its tournament as the Lady Reddies begin the day with a match-up against Cameron beginning at 9 a.m. at Dee White Field.
The Lady Reddies will then play Central Missouri with the first-pitch set for 11 a.m.
Two additional games will be played later in the afternoon as Missouri Western takes on Cameron at 1 p.m. with the finale featuring Arkansas Tech against Cameron at 3 p.m.
The snow and ice that blanketed the western and central parts of the state of Arkansas late Friday evening has caused the cancelation of today’s UAFS baseball season-opening doubleheader against Henderson State at Arkadelphia.
The two teams will now play a double-header beginning at noon on Sunday, weather permitting.
