Warriors wrap up fall at UAM Classic

SHERWOOD — The Hendrix College men’s golf team wrapped up their fall season with a seventh place finish at the University of Arkansas-Monticello Deltic Timber/Commercial Bank Fall Classic at the Greens at North Hills on Monday and Tuesday.

The Warriors shot a 325-348—673 in the two-round event.

Freshman Kevin Austrian led Hendrix with a 77-83=160, tying for 18th. Junior John Weirich tied for 22nd with an 81-81—162.

Rogers State won the tournament with a two-round score of 615. They were followed by Ouachita Baptist (617), Missouri Southern (619), Southern Arkansas (620), UAM (635), Northwestern Oklahoma (647) and Hendrix (673).

Hendrix will start the spring season on March 3 at Mississippi College Spring Invitational in Delhi, La.

Hendrix competes at UAM Classic

SHERWOOD — The Hendrix College women’s golf team wrapped up their fall season by competing at the University of Arkansas-Monticello Deltic Timber/Commercial Bank Fall Classic at the Greens at North Hills on Monday and Tuesday.

Junior Kelsi McClure shot a 99-110—209, placing 28th. Sophomore Trilby Gibson shot a 136 in the first round, before having to withdraw on Tuesday.

Rogers State won the event with a team score of 682. They were followed by William Carey (707), Harding (711), Southern Arkansas (740), UAM (750) and Ouachita Baptist (805). The Warriors did not have enough individual competitors for a team score.

Hendrix will kick off the spring season on March 3 at the Schreiner Spring Shootout in Kerrville, Texas.

Bears finish fourth at Jim Rivers

CHOUDRANT, La. — The University of Central Arkansas Bears finished fourth at the Louisiana Tech Jim Rivers Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Squire Creek Country Club.

UCA shot 294-292-290 for an 876 total. Southern Mississippi was first at 867, followed by Southeastern Louisiana (871), Louisiana Tech (874), UCA, McNeese State (878), North Texas (879), Missouri State (889), Stephen F. Austin and UALR (897), New Orleans (902), Nicholls STate (908) and Houston Baptist (922).

UCA sophomore James Newton tied for fourth place individually, shooting 72-69-72_213. Junior Pep Angles was seventh (73-72-70_215), while senior Richard Farmer tied for 23rd (75-73-75_223) to round out UCA’s Top 25 finishers.

Henderson finishes sixth at invite

The Henderson State men’s golf team turned in a team score of 914 to finish in sixth-place at the TVA Credit Union Invite on Tuesday at the Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club in Alabama.

Matt Jennings led the Reddies with a 54-hole total of 227 to place tied for 19th.

Jennings was among the tournament’s top 15 golfers on par 4 scoring with a 4.10 stroke average and led the Reddies with 36 pars.

Baxter Woosley followed Jennings with a score of 230 to place tied for 28th after posting rounds of 80, 74 and 76, while Gil Debusscher was 37th carding 82, 71, and 80 for a 233 total.

Woosley was Henderson’s top golfer in par 5 scoring with a 4.83 average while leading the Reddies in birdies with 9.

North Alabama won the tournament with a team total of 874, while Columbus State placed second (879) and Missouri-St. Louis finished third (902) out of 14 teams.

Zimmerman leads Trojans at Jim Rivers

RUSTON, La. — The UALR men’s golf team finished in a tie for eighth at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate at Squire Creek Country Club on Tuesday.

Senior Nick Zimmerman led the Trojans with a combined score of 5-over 221.

Southern Misss won the event with a team score of 867, four shots ahead of runner-up Southeastern Louisiana (871). Host Louisiana Tech placed third with a team score of 874.

Zimmerman entered the day at 1-over before shooting a 4-over 76 on Tuesday to finish the event in a tie for 19th place. Junior Colby Benton also entered the day just a shot over par, but carded a 7-over 79 in Tuesday’s final round to finish in a tie for 27th place at 8-over 224. Junior Alfred Kerstis closed the event with an even-par 72 to finish at 10-over 226, while classmate Johann Voss shot a 5-over 77 in the final round to finish at 12-over 228.

UALR will compete in its final event of the fall season at the ASU Fall Beach Classic in Muscle Shoals, Ala., beginning Nov. 4.

Harding places 11th at invite

FLORENCE, Ala. — The Harding men’s golf team closed out the 54-hole TVA Credit Union Invite on Tuesday with a score of 310 that dropped it one spot to finish 11th of 14 teams. The tournament was played at Turtle Point Yacht and Country Club.

Harding was in 10th place after the second round but was passed by West Alabama and dropped to 11th with a team score of 929. Host North Alabama won the tournament at 874, five strokes better than second-place Columbus State.

Harding’s top golfer was junior Nathan Kannenberg, who finished 17th at 9-over 225. Kannenberg was among the tournament’s top 15 golfers on both the par 4s and par 5s and led the Bisons with 34 pars.

The TVA Credit Union Invite was Harding’s final action of the fall semester.

Berglund captures fourth Top-15 finish

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Junior Sofia Berglund led the UALR women’s golf team by finishing in a tie for 14th place at the Blue Raider Invitational on Tuesday. As a team, the Trojans placed 11th of 15 teams with a combined score of 930.

Southern Illinois won the event at Old Fort Golf Course with a team score of 897, one shot better than host Middle Tennessee (898). Lamar placed third with a combined score of 902.

Berglund carded a 5-over 77 in Tuesday’s final round to finish at 10-over 226 for the tournament. It is the Varbeg, Sweden, native’s fourth top-15 finish in five events this season.

The Blue Raider Invitational wraps up competition in the fall portion of UALR’s schedule. The Trojans will next compete at the USA Women’s Invitational in Mobile, Ala., on Feb. 24.
