A-State cruises to 80-68 victory

MONROE, La. — Led by five players in double-figures the Arkansas State (13-7, 7-10 defeated Louisiana-Monroe 80-68 Wednesday evening in a Sun Belt Conference match up at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.

Jane Morrill and Hanna Qedan each scored a game-high 15 points, while Aundrea Gamble added 11 and seven rebounds. Jalen O’Bannon was also in double-figures with 10 points on the night and freshman Jamie Ruffins had a career night with 10 points and six assists.

The Red Wolves have also won seven of their last eight games dating back to Jan. 2 and are undefeated on the road in conference play this year. ULM fell to 7-13 overall and 3-5 in the SBC.

Arkansas State will next play a road matchup with Troy on Feb. 1.

Gault, Ford power UALR to win

LITTLE ROCK – Hot shooting early from junior Taylor Gault and senior Taylor Ford gave UALR (10-9, 3-5) an early lead that it never lost in a 74-60 win over Louisiana (10-9, 3-5) in the Jack Stephens Center on Wednesday night.

The veteran backcourt duo of Ford and Gault was joined by freshman Sharde’ Collins to combine for 47 of the team’s 74 on the night. Gault poured in 22 points for her sixth 20-point game in conference play. She added two assists and went 6 of 6 from the free throw line. Ford finished the night 6 of 7 from the floor on her way to a 15-point night. Collins had a career night with highs in assists (5) and steals (3) as well as tying her career high with 10 points.

Shanity James led the way in the front court for UALR with her second double-double of the year. The forward pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds, scored 10 points and dished out four assists.

UALR will be back on the road on Saturday to play South Alabama.
