FAYETTEVILLE — The Arkansas basketball program has added more strength to its 2014-15 nonconference schedule with a home game against Wake Forest.
The Demon Deacons announced the game Thursday and it will be part of an early-season tournament called the Roundball Showcase. Wake Forest will travel to Fayetteville to play the Razorbacks in Bud Walton Arena on Nov. 19.
The nonconference game will be the seventh meeting between the teams and first since the 2001-02 season, when Wake Forest beat Arkansas 76-71 in a preseason National Invitation Tournament game in Bud Walton Arena. Wake Forest went 17-16 overall and 6-12 in the Atlantic Coast Conference under former coach Jeff Bzdelik, who was fired and replaced by former Tulsa coach Danny Manning.
Wake Forest will be the second ACC opponent on the Razorbacks’ schedule next season. Arkansas — which went 22-12 and reached the second round of the National Invitation Tournament during coach Mike Anderson’s third season with the program —plays a road game at Clemson on Dec. 7.
Arkansas has two more nonconference road games scheduled at Southern Methodist (Nov. 25) and Iowa State (Dec. 4). The Razorbacks also play Dayton — which reached the NCAA Tournament’s Elite Eight — in Bud Walton Arena.
“We think we have added some pieces that are going to help our basketball team climb that next level,” Anderson said last month. “That is what we want to be as a team – one that comes out the gate from the start, in the middle and finishes. Our schedule is going to be such that it demands that. We have to come out strong.”
