SPECIAL TO THE PRESS ARGUS-COURIER

Arkansas defensive end Trey Flowers earns a preseason watch list honor for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy on Thursday.

FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas defensive end Trey Flowers was named to the preseason watch list for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy on Thursday.

The Nagurski Trophy is presented to the nation’s best defensive player. Flowers is among 81 players on the preseason watch list for the trophy, which has been awarded annually since 1993. Pittsburgh’s Aaron Donald was the 2013 recipient.

Flowers is in consideration for the trophy after recording 44 tackles, 13 1/2 tackles for losses and 5 sacks last season. He considered entering the 2014 NFL Draft as a junior, but decided to return to the Razorbacks for his senior season.

Flowers also is on the preseason watch list for the Bednarik Award, which is presented to the defensive player of the year. Flowers is one of five Razorbacks who have been named to preseason watch lists this week.

He joins running backs Jonathan Williams and Alex Collins (Maxwell Award), tight end Hunter Henry (Mackey Award) and punter Sam Irwin-Hill (Ray Guy Award).
