Hogs: NLR’s Day inks letter

NORTH LITTLE ROCK - Juan Day always knew where he wanted to go college and on Wednesday the North Little Rock senior running back made it official when he signed with Arkansas.

“I grew up always wanting to play for the Razorbacks,” Day said.

Day committed to the program as a high school junior when he was in the same backfield as Altee Tenpenny, who now plays at Alabama.

Day, who tore a ligament in his knee, only played three games as a high school senior. The injury occurred against Pine Bluff with Arkansas’ coaches in the stands.

“Right when the injury happened,” Day said. “I talked to them and they told me they were still with me and that they were still committed to me.”

Day had knee surgery a month after the injury and is back running and lifting weights.

Day was listed at 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds, but dropped 20 pounds after the surgery. He already is putting back on the weight.

“I’m at 200 and my goal is to be at 225, 230 pounds,” Day said.

Day only took one visit to Fayetteville and Arkansas was the only school that offered. That one visit was fruitful for Arkansas coach Bret Bielema.

“On my official, all the guys who were there, we made a great bond together,” Day said. “We all committed to Arkansas.”

Day was one of 12 North Little Rock seniors who signed to play college football in a brief ceremony at the school. Of the dozen, Day was the most highly regarded. He is considered a three-star prospect by four different recruiting services.

Others who signed are: Tim Quickel, Tulsa; Marquez Jones, Coffeyville Community College; Kavin Alexander, Arkansas-Pine Bluff; Josh Williams, Central Oklahoma; George Brown, Lane; Drew Keubler, Henderson State; Devohn Lindsey, Grambling; Daniel Barnes, Arkansas Tech; Curtis Parker, Central Arkansas; Chris Riley, Henderson State and A.J. Louden, Southern Arkansas.
