Van Buren built a comfortable lead in the first half and held off a third-quarter surge by Greenwood as the VBFA completed the sweep of the Bulldogs Thursday night.
The Pointers won 45-32 while the Lady Pointers had a 45-19 win.
The freshmen Pointers led 28-10 at halftime only to see Greenwood climb back into the game, 34-25, after the third quarter.
Jonny Harms and Beau Beckner led with 12 and 11 points respectively. Bretty Plunkett chipped in seven and Kyle Porter tossed in five.
Van Buren improved to 13-2 overall and 5-2 in the River Valley Conference to trail Kimmons (5-0).
The Pointers travel to Shiloh Christian (1-3) next Thursday.
VBFA 45, Greenwood 19 (Girls)
The Lady Bulldogs (1-4) kept pace with the Lady Pointers in the first quarter, as VBFA held to a mere 10-8 lead. The Lady Pointers held Greenwood to just 11 second-half points to secure the win.
The Lady Pointers (12-3, 5-1) remain a half game ahead of of Kimmons (4-1) and Alma (4-1) for first place in the league.
Jamilyn Kinney led with 14 points while both Taylar Sutton and Alexis Engel had eight points each. Bailee Griffiths added six and Londan Barlow tossed in five.
Next Thursday, the Lady Pointers visit Shiloh Christian (0-4).
Alma 62, Shiloh Christian 28 (Boys)
The Airedales outscored the Saints 42-17 during the second and third quarters to go up 56-25 heading into the fourth quarter.
“We shot the ball really well (Thursday) night,” said coach Eddie Corder. “I thought we played hard and had a better team effort on defense.”
Noah Dotson led Alma with 19 points. Nathan Corder sparked the Airedales (3-2) with 10 points in the first quarter and finished with 16.
Alma faces Fayetteville Woodland in a nonconference game on Monday.
Alma 46, Shiloh Christian 18 (Girls)
The Lady Airedales jumped ahead 19-4 in the first quarter and Alma grabbed another River Valley Conference win to keep pace with Kimmons (4-1) and the Van Buren Freshman Academy (5-1).
Madi Taylor led with 12 points and Kailey Fagen added eight. Both Bailey Jones and Vernell Willis each chipped in six points each.
Greenwood 23, Butterfield Trail 17 (Girls)
Butterfield’s Trail’s fourth rally came up short in Thursday’s contest. The Lady Pointers trailed 21-9 heading into the fourth, but was able to close the gap.
Caroline Davis, Irasema Sandoval and Makiaya Fey each had four points.
Greenwood 23, Butterfield Trail 20 (Boys)
Down by seven (14-7) at halftime, the Pointers staged a comeback and pulled within two (16-14) heading into the fourth quarter.
Gavin Ball led with 11 points and Braxton Shook added six.
