Van Buren swept through Darby Monday night setting up a key showdown at Kimmons on Thursday.
Alma hosted Chaffin and came away with a pair of River Valley Conference wins.
Van Buren 48, Darby 45 (Boys)
The Pointers (7-1) survived Darby’s third-quarter rally and is still a half game behind Kimmons (7-0) in the River Valley Conference standings.
The Van Buren freshman squad led 25-21 at halftime, but the Rangers (3-4) rallied back to take a 38-36 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Both Beau Beckner and Logan Thomas scored 14 points each and Jonny Harms chipped in 12.
The Pointers (15-2 overall) travel to Kimmons Thursday.
Van Buren 35, Darby 24 (Girls)
Taylar Sutton scored 14 as the Lady Pointers’ early lead sustained the team for the win.
Van Buren led 10-2 after the first quarter and was up 17-10 at halftime.
Londan Barlow had nine and Jamilyn Kinney tossed in six to help with the Lady Pointers’ scoring.
Van Buren (14-3 overall) remains a half game ahead of both Kimmons (6-1) and Darby (6-1) and will travel to face the Lady Raiders on Thursday.
Alma 44, Chaffin 32 (Girls)
The Airedalettes jumped to a 14-4 lead in the first quarter and came away with the River Valley Conference win Monday night.
Alma improved to 6-1 in the league and remains a half game behind Van Buren (7-1) and tied with Kimmons.
Kailey Fagen led Alma with 13 and both Bailey Jones and Abbye Ostrander added 12 points each.
Alma hosts Ramsey (2-6) on Thursday.
Alma 51, Chaffin 48 (Boys)
Darby kept it close, but Noah Dotson scored 25 points to keep Alma in third place in the River Valley Conference.
Alma held just a 14-13 lead in the first quarter and extended it to 23-21 by halftime.
Isaac Posey added 10 points and Nathan Corder chipped in nine.
“We didn’t play exceptionally well, but give Chaffin credit (the Cougars) caused most of it,” said coach Eddie Corder.
Dotson tied up the game with 2:00 remaining in the game and a score from Eli Howell in addition to a pair of free throws by Isaac Posey and Dotson, Alma was able to hold onto the win.
Cedarville 26, Green Forest 22 (Girls)
Lucy Shelly scored 10 points to lead the Lady Pirates.
Alma 40, Greenwood 29 (Girls)
Kailey Fagen and Bailey Jones led the Airedalettes to the River Valley Conference win on .
Fagen scored 12 points while Jones tossed in 11. Madi Tobler added eight.
NORTHRIDGE — The Lady Pointers edged the Lady Rangers of Darby on Monday, 20-18. Naisha Smith led with 11 points. Alma defeated NMS 25-19 on Saturday. Naisha Smith led the Lady Pointers with nine points.
NORTHRIDGE — The Pointers defeated Darby 46-30 on Monday night. Ryan Hewett led with 18 points and Caleb Salisbury tossed in 13. Hewett scored 12 and Salisbury added 11 points in the 54-41 loss to Alma on Saturday.
NORTHRIDGE — The NMS Lady Pointers won both contests on Saturday. Northridge won the first game 32-19 with Olivia Schakenburg scoring 19 points.
NMS (9-0) won the second game, 50-22. Cassidy Cooper and Jentry Myers both led with 16 points each. Kayleigh Evans chipped in 10 and Riley Ryan added six points with five steals and five rebounds.
NORTHRIDGE — Braden Fimple led with 10 points as NMS won 39-28.
