Mountainburg’s Lonnie Campbell (middle) signs a NAIA letter of intent to join the Graceland University of Lamoni, Iowa, basketball team during a ceremony on Friday. Campbell is joined by Jackie Campbell (left) and Diane Campbell.

Lonnie Campbell didn’t spend as much time with the Mountainburg Dragons as he would have liked. But he sure made the most of his minutes.

Campbell, who scored 601 points last season, signed a letter of intent with Graceland University of Lamoni, Iowa, on Friday, the school announced. Campbell said he felt at home when he visited the NAIA Division I school.

“I went up there to visit a couple of times, and everybody made me feel at home,” he said. “Everybody makes you feel like you know everybody.”

Campbell expects to be a two-guard for the Yellowjackets. Graceland finished 15-15 last season.

“It’s (college basketball) kind of been a dream since I was a little kid,” Campbell said. “It’s very important to me.”
