Alma will host the second Crawford County Classic featuring four of the county’s basketball teams in a round-robin format starting Thursday.
The tournament arrives on the heels after many basketball games and tournaments were wiped out last week because of winter weather that moved through the area.
The Cedarville Pirates (2-1) won their opening game at the Greenland tournament back on Dec. 4 before it was shutdown and will face Mulberry (4-7) at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The Lady Pirates (1-3) have faced tough competition so far this season with losses to Mountainburg, Class 4A Farmington and Class 5A Morrilton and will take on stout Mulberry (9-2) team to open the classic at 4 p.m.
The Lady Airedales (0-1) are looking for their first win as they face Class 2A contender Lady Dragons (7-1) at 7 p.m. The Airedales (1-0) are looking to add another win as the Dragons (0-2) are still seeking their first.
On Friday, it’ll be a rematch between Mountainburg and Cedarville at 4 p.m. The Lady Dragons edged the Lady Pirates 43-36 back on Nov. 22. Auburn Peters had a double-double 11 points and 13 rebounds and Kaylyn Moore added 14 during that first meeting. Cedarville’s Allie Arnold led her squad with 10 while both Bailie Murphy and Maddie Armer chipped in nine and eight points each.
The Pirates and Dragons play again at 5:30 p.m. Cedarville won the first outing 56-42 with Garrett Parson scoring 31 points with eight rebounds. Moutainburg’s Lonnie Campbell had had 25 points and seven boards.
Friday will end with Alma taking on Mulberry starting with the women’s game at 7 p.m.
Saturday will begin with what could have been the finale of the Golden Arrow Classic as the LadyJackets face the Lady Dragons at 4 p.m. Both teams won two games at the tournament in Lavaca before the winter weather cancelled the remainder of the classic. The Mulberry-Mountainburg men’s game will follow at 5:30 p.m.
Alma and Cedarville will wrap up the classic starting at 7 p.m.
