The Van Buren Freshman Academy suffered their first setbacks as both teams will play in today’s third-place games.
The Pointers take on the loser of the Russellville West-Conway Blue Saturday at 1:45 p.m. The Lady Pointers face Clarksville, who lost to Alma, Saturday at noon.
Jonny Harms and Logan Thomas each had 10 points for the Pointers, but Fayetteville Woodland had a strong second half to pull away and win 41-33.
VBFA led 21-15 at halftime, but Woodland took the lead 27-23 by the end of the third quarter.
Connor Catron and Beau Beckner each added five points.
Jamilyn Kinney scored 24 points, but Cabot South rallied back to win 44-38.
The Lady Pointers led 17-16 at halftime, but Cabot South outscored VBFA 15-9 in the third quarter to lead 31-28 heading into the fourth quarter.
Alma advances to finals
Bailey Jones had 11 points and Tatum Willhite added nine as the Lady Airedales edged Clarksville 36-34 Thursday at the junior high tournament in Russellville.
The Lady Airedales face Cabot South, who defeated the Lady Pointers, today at 3 p.m. in the finals.
Alma built a 12-6 lead in the first quarter and increased the margin by one, 20-13, at halftime.
Clarksville trailed 30-23 after the third quarter and battled back to close the gap.
Earl White Classic
(Cedarville, Pleasant View)
The Pirates defeated Hartford 37-29 in the consolation bracket Wednesday night to advance to play host Hackett today at 2:30 p.m.
Darian Cunningham led Cedarville with nine points while both Justin Shelly and Dillon Strelow added eight each. Colton McMellon tossed in seven for the Pirates (2-1).
The junior high Pirates opened the tournament with a 44-27 loss to County Line.
Strelow had 15 points and shot 7 of 8 from the free-throw line and Cunningham added eight.
The Pirates opened the season with a 33-20 win at Lincoln. Shelly paced that game with 10 points and Isaac Evans tossed in eight and Cunningham had seven.
The Junior High Lady Pirates defeated Mansfield 31-21.
Pleasant View faces Lavaca today at 4 p.m. after their 33-22 loss to Hartford on Thursday. Destiny Freeman led the Lady Hornets with 10 points.
The eighth grade Pointers dropped a 38-35 decision to West Fork’s ninth graders at the Ozark tournament on Thursday. Ryan Hewett had 14 points while Caleb Salisbury and Weston Graham added six points each.
The seventh grade beat Charleston 44-30 on Wednesday. Braden Fimple paced the Pointers with 16 points and Christian Morrow tossed in 12.
