Prep Basketball: Round-Up for Nov. 16

Mountainburg’s Kaylyn Moore, Bri Hobson and Tara Webb trap an Atkins Lady Red Devil during Wednesday’s game at the Johnson County Tournament. The Lady Dragons won the contest and will play today in the finals.

Mountainburg slowed the game down in the second half to beat Atkins in the second round of the Johnson County Westside tournament on Wednesday.

The Lady Dragons (2-0) led 28-15 at the break, but the Lady Red Devils stormed back to trail 33-25 going into the fourth quarter.

Mountainburg held onto the ball for most of the fourth and came away with the win.

Tara Webb, who recently signed a Division II letter of intent with Arkansas Tech led the team in scoring with 12 points.

Auburn Peters paced the Lady Dragons in the rest of the categories as she added 11 points with seven rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Kaylyn Moore added tossed in nine.

Mountainburg faces Little Rock Mills today at 5 p.m. in the final round of the tournament.

Both Mountainburg squads begin seasonal play Tuesday at West Fork.

Mulberry, Pleasant View splits

Mulberry split with Waldron Tuesday night to conclude its five-game road swing.

Lexi Voorhees scored 21 points as the Lady Yellow Jackets defeated the Lady Bulldogs 50-43. Brittany Edwards added 15. It’s the first back-to-back win for the Lady Yellow Jackets this season.

The Lady Yellow Jackets (3-2) hosted Western Yell County Friday night for the team’s first home game since the season opened on Oct. 22.

Mulberry will also host Lamar on Tuesday.

The Yellow Jackets (2-3) fell 66-38 to Waldron in the men’s game. Keenan Reeves paced Mulberry with 10 points.

Pleasant View also split with Western Yell County on Thursday. The Lady Hornets lost by six.

The Hornets won 43-36 as Dalton Reeves scored 23 points and Trevor Marvin added 14.

Both Pleasant View teams travel to Hackett to participate in the tournament there starting Monday. The Lady Hornets begin at 7 p.m. against Lavaca with the Hornets afterwards against Cedarville.
