The Lady Dragons and the Mulberry YellowJackets each won their first-round game at the Golden Arrow Classic on Monday at Lavaca.
The Dragons fell to Danville in the opening round.
Kaylyn Moore hit five three pointers and finished with a game-high 21 points as the Lady Dragons defeated Booneville 50-18.
Mountainburg (6-1) faces Paris Wednesday at 7 p.m. for the second round of the tournament. The Lady Dragons defeated Paris 39-38 in the opening round of the Johnson County Tournament on Nov. 9. It was the season opener for both teams.
Moore also finished with three steals and three assists.
Auburn Peters added 10 points and had a team-high seven rebounds. Peters came away with three steals as well.
Tara Webb shot 7 of 8 from the free-throw line and finished with nine points and five rebounds. As a team, Mountainburg shot 12 of 18 from the line.
Tianna Barton had three assists for the Lady Dragons.
Jay Trusty scored 17 points in the first quarter and finished with 34 as Danville defeated the Dragons 81-68 in Monday’s final game of the tournament.
The Little Johns led 43-28 at halftime.
Lonnie Campbell paced Mountainburg with 31 points and Trey Allen added 17. Eli Pippin and Tyler Patterson chipped in seven and six points respectively.
Mountainburg will face the loser of the Waldron-Lavaca game on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.
The YellowJackets bounced back from its loss to Danville last week to topple Paris 50-43 in the first men’s game of the Golden Arrow Classic on Monday at Lavaca High School.
Mulberry faces the winner of County Line-Booneville game on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
The Eagles led 15-8 after the first quarter, but Mulberry chipped away at the lead to trail 35-30 heading into the fourth quarter.
Dillon Jones had 20 points to lead the YellowJackets (4-5) and Wyatte Reeves added 13. Keenan Reeves and Audie Stringer had nine and seven points respectively.
