Prep Softball: Alma reaches second round of state tourney

The Airedalettes fell to White Hall 6-2 in the second round of the Class 5A state softball tournament after edging Beebe 2-1 on Friday at Dupree Park in Jacksonville.

White Hall did all of its damage in the first inning, scoring three runs with three hits and an error in the bottom of the frame. Abby Weaver reached home on an error, and Lauren Graves and Ciara Linker had RBI singles.

Alma cut the lead by two when Criswell scored on a wild pitch in the second.

However, White Hall responded with another run scored in the bottom of the second as Weaver added a two-out home run.

White Hall added two more runs in the sixth, an RBI single from Linker and Camryn Williams.

Alma’s final run of the season came on a RBI double by Charley Wilborn at the top of the seventh.

Alma was limited to just five hits, and Alexys Criswell was the only batter with two. White Hall had eight hits with Weaver (lead off), Graves (clean-up) and Linker grabbing two hits each. Linker also had two RBIs for the game.

Olivia Vinson finished the same with the loss and had four earned runs with no walks and one strikeout.

Graves earned the win with four walks and five strikeouts.

Alma 2, Beebe 1

Shaylee Sevenstar’s one-out RBI single at the top of the eighth gave Alma the lead and Vinson needed just seven pitches to retire the top of Beebe’s line up to grab Friday’s opening win.

Vinsion didn’t give up an earned run, but had two walks and one strikeout in the win as she scattered six hits over eight innings.

Alma won with just five hits and a pair of walks from Beebe’s starting pitcher Ellie Reaves.

Criswell had two hits for Alma while Beebe’s Haley Dinapoli, batting seventh, had three of her team’s six hits.

Beebe took an early lead as Madelyn Poe scored on a passed ball in the first.

Alma was limited to one hit through the first three innings, but Hailey Ostrander hit a double to get things rolling in the fourth. Criswell added another double to send Ostrander home.
