Prep Softball: Alma splits with Morrilton

Morrilton kept Alma from reaching home in the first contest and scored late to win the first game, but the Airedalettes held off another rally to win the nightcap.

The Lady Devil Dogs began with a 2-1 win, but Alma picked up the split, 7-4.

Alma was leading 7-1 after scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth in the second game, but Morrilton scored three runs in the seventh to try to make it close.

Shelbi Collins had a RBI triple and Lauren Simer added a RBI single. Alma ended the threat with a double play, but not before Simer was able to score from second base.

Shaylee Sevenstar had a two-out, three-run double in the sixth inning to propel Alma to the 7-1 lead. Brooke Hoffsommer began the inning with a RBI single after a triple by Alexys Criswell.

Cierra Rainwater added a two-run double in the fourth and Charley Wilbourn rapped in a run with her single in the third.

Alma had six hits in the second game with Cierra Rainwater picking up two. Morrilton generated seven hits as Lyndsey Jones going 2 for 3.

Olivia Vinson had the win with three earned runs, one walk and three strikeouts.

Montana Flowers had the loss for Morrilton. Flowers gave up seven earned runs, six walks with one strike out.

Flowers also had a RBI double in the sixth for the Lady Devil Dogs.

Morrilton 2, Alma 1

The Lady Devil Dogs loaded up the bases at the top of the seventh and walked in the game-winning run.

In the bottom of the seventh, Morrilton retired the side in order to end the game.

Alma got on the board when Taylor Thornbrugh took first on a walk and Criswell brought the run home with a double to make it 1-1.

Morrilton took the 1-0 lead on the RBI single by Deonna Howard in the third.

Wilbourn was the only one with multiple hits as she collected two. Lauren Simer had two hits for Morrilton as well.

Flowers earned the win in the first game. She gave up six hits with one earned run, three walks and two strikeouts.

Vinson also had six hits, three walks, two strikeouts, but had two earned runs.

Alma stranded six runners on base with three in scoring position, while the Lady Devil Dogs left seven.

The Airedalettes tried for a two-out rally in the fifth as lead-off hitter Sevenstar and Wilbourn had back-to-back hits. However, Hailey Ostrander hit into a routine 4-3 play to end the rally.
