Prep Softball: Alma wins Rumble opener

Alma won it’s opener at the River City Rumble, but dropped its next three games to teams that either reached the finals or semifinals of the tournament.

Sheridan went on to defeat Mena 10-0 in the finals at the Field of Dreams in Van Buren on Saturday.

Mena 11, Alma 2

Mena pounded out 10 hits in four innings to end Alma’s run in the River City Rumble on Saturday.

Alma struck first with a RBI double from Hailey Ostrander.

Mena did most of its damage in the first inning by scoring five runs off of five hits. Ariel Hartin and Hannah Lochala each drove in a run. Two runs were scored on a error.

Mena added three runs in the second and three runs in the third. Mena began the second inning scoring twice on an error. Hartin added a solo home run in the frame.

Hartin, who finished going 3 for 3 with three RBIs, brought home another run with a base hit in the third.

The Airedalettes added another run in the fourth as Cierra Rainwater singled in a run.

The Airedalettes were limited to six hits over five innings. K’la Criswell was 2-for-2.

Olivia Vinson had the loss with eight earned runs, a walk and a strikeout.

Ariel Hartin grabbed the win for Mena as she gave up just one earned run and recorded two strikeouts.

Greenwood 8, Alma 1

Greenwood jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first and added three runs in the third and another in the fourth.

Devyn Gregory got Greenwood moving with her two-run single and two more runs were scored on a wild pitch.

The Lady Bulldogs capitalized on a error to score two runs in third. Another error gave Greenwood another scoring opportunity in the same frame.

Victoria Taylor earned the win for five innings of work with seven strikeouts, one earned run and scattering two hits.

Vinson absorbed the loss. She gave up seven hits and just three earned runs with one walk and two strikeouts.

Alma’s only run came in the second as Brooke Hoffsommer hit into a 5-3 play.

Sheridan 5, Alma 0

Morgan Burke struck out 11 of the 21 batters she faced, including eight of the first 10 to help her squad.

Alma didn’t get into scoring position until the fifth as Abby Ostrander walked and Hoffsommer rapped out a double with one out. Burke struck out the remaining batters to get Sheridan out of the inning.

Vinson didn’t give up a walk or a hit in the first two innings, but Madison Crosby led off with a home to put Sheridan on the board. Sydney Bonner added a RBI single in the frame.

Sheridan rapped out three doubles in the fifth to drive in the final runs of the contest.

Alma 2, Har-Ber 1

The Airedalettes gave up six hits, but only a run to beat the Lady Wildcats in the opener of the River City Rumble.

Vinson earned the win scattering six hits over six innings with one strikeout and one earned run.

Gracie Bogle took the loss as she surrendered three hits, two earned runs and four walks with four strikeouts.

Har-Ber’s Emily Stockalper led her team going 3 for 3 at the plate. The Lady Wildcats stranded four batters in scoring position, and Stockalper had three of those.

Har-Ber’s sole run was at the top of the fourth when Misty Hickman has a RBI single to bring Morgan Neal home.

Alma responded in the bottom of the frame to tie up the game after a RBI single by Hailey Ostrander.

Sevenstar’s RBI double in the fifth gave Alma the lead.

Vinson retired the side in the sixth.
