Prep Softball: Two-out rally lifts Lady Pointers

Van Buren rallied with two outs at the top of the seventh as Baylor Miles drove in a pair of runs to help the Lady Pointers remain in position to clinch the 7A West title with the 2-1 win on Tuesday night.

Tori Stafford reached on a base hit and took second when Jessica Smith hit into an error. Both runners advanced an additional base on steals before Miles hit her double.

Stafford retired the side in the bottom of the frame to end the game.

Both teams were kept from scoring through the first four innings. Rogers threatened a couple of times to add runs.

Rogers loaded up the bases with two outs in the first, but Stafford fanned the final out to end that threat. In the sixth, the Lady Mounties put two runners on with no outs, but the defense collected outs on the next three batters and Rogers was unable to reach home.

Stafford picked up the win scattering five hits with three walks and three strike outs. Haylee Zimmerman absorbed the loss giving up four hits with seven strike outs.

Stafford help her cause as the only Van Buren player with more than one hit. She was 2 for 3 with a double while Emilee Aaron and Miles collected the other two hits.

Rogers got on board as Taylor Erickson was able to reach home on an error.
