The Van Buren 3,200-meter relay team placed fourth at the Meet of Champs on Saturday at Lake Hamilton High School in Pearcy and set a school record with a run of 10 minutes, 9.91 seconds. The relay team is comprised of (from left) Sage Mackin, Maria Valente, Logan Edwards and Madi Chitwood.
Van Buren’s Maria Santillana and Alma’s Tres Rowland placed first in their respective events as several Crawford County athletes competed at the Meet of Champs Saturday at Lake Hamilton High School in Pearcy.
Santillana won the women’s shot put and finished as the top high school shot putter in Arkansas this year with a throw of 38 feet, 1.5 inches.
Rowland won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 39.32 seconds and was third in the 110-meter hurdles (15.65).
Van Buren’s Serena Shores took third in the 300 hurdles (47.71) and was eighth in the 100-meter hurdles.
The 3,200-meter relay team set a Van Buren school record of 10 minutes, 9.91 seconds as Sage Mackin, Logan Edwards, Madi Chitwood and Maria Valente placed fourth.
Alma’s throwers also placed at the meet. Michael Nicholson was second in discus (155-4) and Brad Hurst was second in the shot put (54-3.25).
Cedarville’s 1,600-meter relay team of Dillon Strelow, Andrew Hernandez, Damien King and Abraham Hernandez was eighth (3:37.75).
