The 2013 seasons continued to come to a close for Crawford County schools with the Meet of Champs and the state softball tournament.

Van Buren’s Bekah Gibbons was third in the 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters at the Meet of Champs Saturday at Lake Hamilton.

Gibbons was also on the Pointerettes’ 4x800 relay team with Sage Mackin, Madi Chitwood and Maria Valente. They finished fourth with a school-record time of 10:10.88

5A State Tournament

Alma’s day got off to a good start as the Airedales routed Jacksonville, 19-5, in a game that had been postponed from Thursday.

Cierra Rainwater hit a grand slam and had nine RBIs. Aubrey Bailey came in relief and held the Devils scoreless.

But Alma ran into defending 5A champion White Hall in the second game and managed only three hits in a 9-0 loss.

Post-season honors

The Cedarville Pirates had a number of players named to the all-conference team as well as to the all-state team.

The Pirates’ starting pitcher Korbin Polly (8-2) and stalwart infielder and hitter Evan Fincher were named to the all-state team while coach Terry Parks was recognized as the 3A-1 Coach of the Year.

Tyler Mowrey is the team’s all-star nominee.

All conference selections included Mowrey, Bryan Shelly, Logan Wheeler, Garret Parson, Zach Bradford, Zach Myers and Corey Fincher.

Cedarville finished the season in the quarterfinals of the Class 3A state playoffs. The team won the 3A-1 Conference title and the first ever regional baseball title for the school.
